Getting w.Bloggar to work with Blogger Beta

I signed up for Blogger Beta. Only to find out that none of my posting software works. I earlier used to use w.Bloggar, and had been using Windows Live Writer for the last few days. I downloaded w.Bloggar’s latest version and tried setting it up with my new Blogger Beta blog. Behold the Beta Gods. It said my username/password didn’t match. I realised it was not connecting to the beta interface, but rather to the old Blogger interface. And the old Blogger interface cannot login a Google Accounts username/password.
Being a lazy person, I searched the net first to see if someone else had come up with a solution. My search yielded no results. So I tried to play with the w.Bloggar account settings. Luckily, I got it right in the first attempt. Anyways, I decided to share this info with you all. So here is a step by step with screenshots (click on them to enlarge).
Getting w.Bloggar to work with Blogger Beta :

  3. The instructions were nicely done, and I followed them to the letter. Then created a post and selected “publish”…and received an acknowledgement that the post was published…however, it doesn’t show up in my blog…on my host, or on blogger. Oh well…

Comment by Richard Pressl | Monday, November 13, 2006 | Reply

  4. @Richard : Did you check whether it got saved as draft?
Or is it that you are publishing to your own server?

Comment by samishra | Tuesday, November 14, 2006 | Reply

  5. I didn’t save it as a draft…I elected to just publish it. It is hosted on my own server, (actually Earthlink…who maintains my server: bizmarts.com)

I checked again today…and worst yet: I can’t enter a post into the blogger.beta editor now…actually, I can enter it; but it will not publish.

    Boo hoo…

Comment by peebrain | Sunday, December 3, 2006 | Reply

  16. @Liana : Glad to have been of help

@peebrain : Currently you will have to add labels manually by editing the post and adding labels.

w.bloggar does not currently support Blogger Beta. What I have provided is just a workaround. I would recommend Windows Live Writer Beta. Though even Windows Live Writer Beta doesn’t support labels and image uploading. But still it is currently far more better option than w.bloggar.

As the new Blogger is out of beta, I changed the URL from beta.blogger.com to www2.blogger.com and it works fine, although titles don’t seem to be working correctly. If I find out how to fix that I’ll post again. Thanks again for posting this workaround.

  34. @The Puppeteer : the H2 tags just make the text look like the title. It doesn’t set the title. The title still remains blank.

(God I feel thick now). You will get a message advising you need to verifiy your account using a email! The above process will then work!

Comment by Brent | Wednesday, April 25, 2007 | Reply

  70. Hi,
I can post from w.bloggar to my blogger.com blog, the only issue is that the posts get stored in DRAFT MODE maybe because the title is not getting correctly recognized.

I read all around that it’s using the Blogger API which has no parameter for the title. Somewhere else I read Blogger Beta is using the Google API/ ATOM 1.0 API. Somewhere else I get to know it’s using GDATA API. Now this is getting real confusing. The blogger.com’s help suggests that for now, we should send the post to the service.post url of the blog… Now which is that post url?

The result is, if I’m posting to my blogspot blog, the posts get stored there, but in draft mode, with title and body text mixed and stored in the BODY of the post, and when I edit it, I see that the whole text is stored in the body of the post. It clearly means we need to use the right TITLE distinction tag in the w.blogger’s ACCOUNT SETTINGS>CUSTOM TAB…

please help…. WHICH IS THAT TAG?
    is not working!

Comment by Vishal | Wednesday, April 25, 2007 | Reply

  71. Can’t google inform the world which is that tag! Silly isn’t it… Millions of users are using your service and you immediately change the way you enter the bus without letting everyone know that the entrance will be from the other side from now!
Wow! I sometimes don’t understand what those high salaried employees do sitting at the top positions running big corporations.

Comment by Vishal | Wednesday, April 25, 2007 | Reply

  72. >It clearly means we need to use the right TITLE distinction tag in the w.blogger’s ACCOUNT SETTINGS>CUSTOM TAB

I think it might be a little more complicated than that, in that it’s not just title tags in the new API but rather the next level higher tags as well.

So the XML that w.bloggar sends needs to be completely restructured–more than just adding different tags immediately around the title.

Could be wrong, though (please, somebody go ahead & prove me wrong–PLEASE!). But that is my impression in looking through the documentation (that I can find).

Comment by Brent | Wednesday, April 25, 2007 | Reply

  73. BTW the thing that bugs me is the blogger/google forced us to upgrade with the promise that “everything is OK now, all the bugs are worked out”.

Well, anybody with any sense KNEW that would not be true.

In my case particularly there were two (related) changes that have caused loads of grief–1. the change in format of the RSS feeds, which messed up the whole system I had set up to automatically read & parse my blogs’ RSS feeds and do various things with them.

    2. The change in API which made w.bloggar malfunction.

Those are both HUGE changes–many hours spent messing with both ends and neither is completely fixed yet.

Comment by Brent | Wednesday, April 25, 2007 | Reply

  74. Dear Samirsha? How to make the title works for the settings you offer?
